This project is a contextual design piece consisting of three fans which double as kink objects. I wanted to explore through the medium of fans the power dynamic between openly queer individuals and closeted, publicly homophopic people in power during sex.
Fans were used mainly by victorians but also other cultures to acquire taboo or secret sex through a secret code. I became obsessed with the juxtaposition between an item of high society and the dirty taboo of sex and thought it mirrored the hypocrisy of the homophobic people in power engaging in queer intercourse despite seeking to end it.
